Seal of Biliteracy
The Seal of Biliteracy is an award granted by educational institutions to recognize students who have achieved proficiency in English and at least one other language by the time they graduate from high school. It aims to celebrate multilingualism and encourage language learning, equipping students with valuable skills for global citizenship and enhancing their academic and career prospects. Eligibility typically requires demonstrating language proficiency through standardized tests or coursework. The Seal of Biliteracy acknowledges the importance of bilingualism and cultural literacy in today's interconnected world.
For a student who completes all of the requirements before an agreed upon date, the student will receive:

green cord or medal at graduation

certificate of the Seal of Biliteracy

notation on their transcripts showing the Seal of Biliteracy

biliteracy can be noted in Common App, which is an app students can use to apply for colleges
To meet the Colorado Seal of Biliteracy for High School Diplomas minimum requirements at CCHS, a graduating student must do to following:
1. To demonstrate proficiency or higher in English:

Complete all of the English Language Arts (ELA) coursework required for graduation with an overall grade point average of at least 3.0 in the required ELA courses. English Language Development (ELD) coursework for MLs also applies.

Complete one of these:

Score 3 or higher on the Advanced Placement (AP) English Language and Composition

Score 470 or higher on the SAT section of "Evidenced-Based Reading and Writing"

2. To demonstrate proficiency or higher in a world language:

Complete one of these:
1. Successfully complete a 4-year high school course of study of a single World Language with an overall grade-point average of at least 3.0
2. Achieve a passing score on nationally recognized test: Avant Stamp 4S, AAPPL for the Seal of Biliteracy, or ACTFL OPI + WPT for the Seal of Biliteracy
